One police sergeant who jumped to the help of a partner that was assaulted by a blade-wielder has been awarded the Monarch's Honor for Valor.

Sgt Tim Ansell struggled against twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he held a weapon to the neck of his colleague Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown launched his attack as the policemen and their third officer, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a driver subsequent to a vehicle incident in Whalley Range in July 2023.

Brown knifed and cut the two Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft stopped him with a Taser.

"Officer stabbed," PC Wolstencroft stated over his radio.

Bodyworn and dashboard camera footage shared by the police department depicted Brown, who was dressed in black with a head covered, approach to Sgt Foster from the rear with a weapon pointed forward.

He ran into the officer who stumbled and fell to the pavement, after which Sgt Ansell jumped in and attempted to subdue him to the ground even though being repeatedly struck with the knife.

Police Constable Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and awaited a open target, bringing the fight to an conclusion.

Sgt Ansell can be heard to say: "Please provide help on my neck now, I've been stabbed in the throat."

Sgt Ansell sustained two deep cuts to his neck and additional wounds to his arms and torso, whereas Sergeant Foster suffered knife wounds.

The department said Sergeant Foster employed his hands to stem his partner's hemorrhaging before paramedics came.

The latest award comes subsequent to the three officers won departmental Valor Recognitions in late 2023 and the police federation award from the regional Police Federation in early 2024.

They further earned a Area Valor Recognition in summer 2024.

"The actions of each policeman eventually saved themselves and ensured no members of the public endured any injuries."

Brown received a sentence to an indefinite hospital order in early 2024, as stated by authorities.
