Hungarian Author László Krasznahorkai Awarded Nobel Prize in Literary Arts
Krasznahorkai was won the prestigious Nobel in Literary Arts.
This Hungarian novelist was celebrated "for his gripping and forward-thinking oeuvre that, in the midst of end-times fear, reaffirms the power of art."
He has produced five books and won countless further literary awards, including the 2015's Booker International, and the 2013's best translated novel honor in Narrative for his debut novel "Satantango", a contemporary creation concerning the end of the planet.
Krasznahorkai is the second Magyar author to receive the award following the deceased Kertesz Imre, who received in 2002.
Brought into the world in 1954, the author obtained fame in 1985 when he issued Satantango, which he converted for the cinema in 1994.
The black-and-white movie, by Hungarian cinematographer Bela Tarr, is notable for its seven-hour running time.
The author's further novels consist of:
- "The Melancholy of Resistance" (1989)
- War and War (the late 90s)
- Seiobo Below (the 2000s)
The Nobel Prize in Literature portrayed him as "an exceptional sweeping novelist in the European custom that reaches via Franz Kafka to Thomas Bernhard, and is marked by absurdism and grotesque excess."
Krasznahorkai's 2021 book Herscht 07769 has been called as a major present-day Deutsch novel, due to its exactness in depicting the nation's societal turmoil just before the global health crisis.
This is a portrayal of a modern small town in Thüringen, the Federal Republic of Germany, plagued by societal anarchy, killing and fire-setting.
"Kind titan Florian Herscht is an orphan, taken in by a far-right extremist who has apprenticed him as a wall writing remover.
"The Boss, a Bach devotee, is incensed that someone is using wolf emblems across the statues to the celebrated composer in their east German city."
One review described it as "thus dark from beginning to finish."
Krasznahorkai's newest ironic work, Zsömle Odavan, reverts to Hungary.
The lead is 91-year-old Uncle Kada, who has a confidential claim to the throne but has made every effort to disappear from the planet.
