'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith resumes battle with City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he reminisces about the nail-biting final moments of his team's remarkable turnaround triumph against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The encounter culminated with Galbraith briefly donning a spectator's eyewear following the on-field celebration.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a long-range effort from 25 yards, and the defender promptly converted the loose ball before racing off toward the East Stand to mark the goal, with fans swarming the players.

Stunning Reversal

The result completed an extraordinary turnaround given the Welsh side had been behind 2-0 during the final 45 minutes. In the delirium, there was some unintended consequences. He shared, "There was a supporter trying to get our attention and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're individuals, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

That win booked a fourth-round game at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a club Galbraith ran close at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with his former club in February. The athletic midfielder had arguably the best view when the underdogs took the lead in stunning style, with the attacker's long-range effort from about way out going in via the crossbar and the opposition keeper. Many argued that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've credited him for having a go from that distance," says Galbraith, who played in the middle before moving to right wing-back after they changed tactics. That meant facing off against Jack Grealish, with whom he swapped shirts, and the attacker was among the opposition who paid tribute to the way Orient played positively.

Guardiola's System

"Athletically they are exceptional but even the fundamentals and routine actions, they can just perform consistently," the midfielder notes. "It appears that they never miss a pass and they are adept at manage and take the sting out of a game. You can believe you're all right and then without warning they will just fizz a pass through a line without you even seeing. You have to be switched on every second of the game. It takes a strong mentality and focus just to remain competitive."

Swansea Move

The club sought to acquire Galbraith in January and beat off competition to secure him in the summer in a significant move. He made a name as a popular figure across a couple of years at Orient and has swiftly done the same in his new home. At his previous team he linked up again with the coach, who previously gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in professional games on loan at a League One side from Old Trafford. Then came a spell at League Two the Manchester club, before he departed Old Trafford.

Learning Curve

"I was probably a bit naive going into men's football. I think many athletes would say development squad matches is very different. Sometimes it seems possession is exchanged without much intensity. You see few physical contests. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adjust fast."

Country Call-ups

He has demonstrated that maturation for his team and nation, excelling for his national side, who are fighting to qualify for the international competition next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has been selected in the recent fixtures, including both legs games against the German national team. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's previous international manager, offered the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he handles the football and his knack for a game-changing assist.

Starting Out

This represents a remarkable path for the youngster from the Queens Park estate in his hometown, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who used to see his parent, the elder Galbraith, also a midfielder, play for a local club.

Old Trafford Memory

Galbraith's single match for the Red Devils came in the away trip in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the Kazakh capital, where they competed on an synthetic surface and the venue ceiling was closed owing to temperatures of -15C. "It was a long trip and it was chilly," he says, chuckling. "The preceding week, the academy prospects practiced as a group, so that assisted our preparation. Just to travel with the first team and earn some playing time at the end was unbelievable."

Departing Old Trafford

How difficult was it to depart Manchester United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged his mid-teens? "The decision proved relatively straightforward, because I reached the point where I knew I wasn't going to make it at the top level. I'm extremely thankful for the experience gained but it became apparent where I believed I required a fresh start, move to a lower level and play professional soccer. Now I'm steadily working my way back up."

New Environment

This occurs during the early part of the afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has somewhere to be at the early evening: a driving theory test, another progress toward getting on the road. Until recently to Sketty, the 24-year-old was a regular in Swansea's nicknamed player transport, a minibus driven by club employees, Pete and Howard, which transports players to and from training and matches.

"I travel with a teammate, the Brazilian, an Ivorian player – a former passenger used to be in it but has started driving. It's pleasant to interact with the guys but I'm hoping to be the following person to drive independently and driving. His teammate likes to pull a few pranks; he's frequently playing tricks."

Supporter Connections

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would blend in with supporters on public transport after commuting at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
