Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has beaten Oscar Piastri at all of the last five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the championship lead from Piastri by one point after his victory in Mexico City a fortnight back, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he lost control at corner four early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before sliding over the run-off area, and was blessed to avoid just a minor contact of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the conclusion of the session, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner leading to the final bend on to the main straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th place, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619secs off Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
