Marvel's Wonder Man Trailer Unveils The MCU's Most Self-Referential TV Show To Date

Marvel has heard that audiences might be experiencing some superhero fatigue, so they've opted to incorporate that very idea into their upcoming superhero series.

That's right, the first trailer for Wonder Man has arrived, and it pledges a meta twist on the MCU.

The trailer, which debuted on October 10th, also quietly moved the Wonder Man launch date later from its initial end of 2025 window into January 2026.

Why one more superhero film? Everyone is weary of superheroes. Why watch them in the theater? Wonder Man spoke to me on a profound level. There is an opportunity to surprise audiences. To reinvent the entire genre of narrative.

The reporter responds: "Have you given any thought about casting?"

The preview then cuts to lead actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who's watching the interview on his phone, and the trailer ends.

Key Details Regarding Wonder Man

We were previously aware that Wonder Man would be a meta take on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series stars Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, a Hollywood actor who becomes a superhero (the hero Wonder Man).

The rest of the cast includes actor Ben Kingsley returning as Iron Man 3's Trevor Slattery, Demetrius Grosse as Eric Williams (also known as Grim Reaper), Ed Harris as Simon's agent Neal Saroyan, and Arian Moayed coming back as DODC agent P. Cleary.

Marvel's Self-Referential Comedy Strategy

We don't know much else about the storyline of Wonder Man, but it's clear that Marvel intends to poke some fun at itself.

In the aftermath of Deadpool & Wolverine, it seems like the production company is all in on meta-humor. Will that work without the star power of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman? Only time will tell.
