One-time National Football League Athlete Antonio Brown Enters Not Guilty Response in Murder Attempt Charges
Ex- National Football League wide receiver Antonio Brown is traveling to Miami to face an attempted murder accusation stemming from a incident that took place in May, as his lawyer entering a not guilty plea on his behalf.
Correctional records in Essex, New Jersey, show that Brown was discharged on Tuesday early for his transfer to the state of Florida. Brown, one of the most popular athletes in the National Football League, had waived extradition to Florida from New Jersey, in which he was taken after being arrested in the city of Dubai.
Brown’s counsel, Mark Eiglarsh, stated in an communication that he has earlier lodged a written not guilty response to the attempted murder accusation. Brown could be in a Miami court as early as Wednesday early for a bond hearing, Eiglarsh added.
According to his arrest order, Brown is accused of taking a firearm from a security guard after a star match contest in May and shooting multiple rounds at a man he had clashed with before. The reported target, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, stated to investigators that one of the bullets touched his nape.
Eiglarsh said that Brown was simply defending himself from Nantambu.
“The actions he was forced to take were exclusively in defense against the reported person’s hostile actions. Brown was assaulted that night and behaved within his rightful privilege to safeguard himself,” Eiglarsh commented.
Brown was not right away arrested because originally officers did not consider Nantambu as a victim. It wasn’t until subsequently in May that Nantambu gave a detailed statement about the situation to officers and named Brown as the shooter, the document says.
According to his online updates, Brown had been residing in the city of Dubai for a number of weeks. In a message after the incident, Brown claimed he was safeguarding himself because he was “jumped by multiple individuals who attempted to rob my possessions and bring personal damage to me.”
A second-degree attempted murder allegation in Florida carries a maximum fifteen-year jail penalty and up to a $10,000 penalty in the instance of a conviction.
Brown has encountered numerous judicial challenges over the years. He previously had been charged of physical attack of a truck operator, multiple abuse accusations, failure to pay parental support and additional events.
During a recent game with his team against the Jets, Brown stripped off his jersey, shoulder pads and gloves and left the stadium, leading to his release by the Buccaneers and virtually ending his football journey.
