Skydiving Trainer Killed After Plummeting Lacking Safety Gear in Nashville

Rescue Scene Emergency Effort
Local Fire Department said it employed several ladders and a rescue mechanism to save the student

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the fatality of a parachuting trainer after he became separated from his student during a jump in Music City, TN.

Police say instructor Justin Fuller "is presumed to have fallen from the air without a parachute" during the dive on Saturday.

Fuller, 35 years old, appeared to have separated from his client and a dual harness, which connects the pair during a dive and includes the safety gear.

A law enforcement aircraft located Fuller's body in a wooded area hours later. Local emergency crews used several ladders to access the middle-aged student who lived through the descent after being stuck on a tree for hours with the backup chute.

Police stated three other dives, which occurred near Nashville's John C Tune airport, were successfully completed before the deadly incident. The plane from which they leaped also landed safely.

The cause remains unknown how Mr Fuller, an experienced skydiver, got detached from the safety equipment.

A individual who assisted rescue teams in the operation informed a media outlet the client who authorities saved said "it was his first jump, and it was going to be his last".

Mr Fuller had previously posted about his enthusiasm for instructing people how to skydive.

"Teaching people to skydive has always been in my opinion the most satisfying job at the drop zone," Mr Fuller said in an Instagram post in June.

"Watching them figure it out and begin maneuvering their bodies is always a heartwarming moment. Sometimes though, it can become quite chaotic up there when you let someone go for their first time."

During that period he shared photos of the wreckage a jump aircraft he was on saying the aircraft's motor had failed after take off. All 20 people onboard survived.
