From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in power within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season follow below.
The Warrior Group Introduced
The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to begin their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.
Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, entering the secret base, attacking the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The antagonist then settled his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
- Kattigan has experience in the region and cautions that it is a hostile location.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- But, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the team enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The grateful character vowed a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that control the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the family.
This means them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in quest for the traitor.
